A graduate of West Point in 1861, Upton served in the three branches of the army
and is considered a superb commander of the Civil War.
Known as a master of tactics, he later taught at his alma mater
and became one of the most influential military thinkers in US history. The Upton monument is located in the Mount Hope section.
