Waterfowl, wild turkeys, hawks, deer, beaver and mink provide a variety of outdoor recreation. For many years, the flat, sandy beaches along Burtis Point have been a favored location for lakeside homes.

Challenges of Riparian Area Management

North American watershed management practices usually have not incorporated the practical, aesthetic, and financial advantages of approaching watershed management as maintenance of natural tendencies in river channel behavior. Stable sections of a stream can become blueprints for natural stability. Instead of relying solely upon structural methods, the characteristics of the stable stream section can be emulated on the unstable reach. This approach includes data collection before and after stream restoration, so that initial conditions are described and reactions can be monitored.
